Notice of Temporary Gas Service Interruption 3 November 2024
Consistent maintenance is a cornerstone of Egoli Gas’ drive towards the sustainable future of gas supply to Johannesburg for many years to come. We are hard at work in two major areas, securing future molecules at feasible pricing and upgrading and maintaining our gas supply network and equipment to ensure our reliability is not just sustained but also improved.
We are reaching out to inform you that on Sunday, the 3rd of November, there will be a temporary interruption in the gas service from 5:00 am to 10:00 am. This interruption is necessary to conduct critical maintenance on our high-pressure infrastructure at our site in Langlaagte.
We are cognisant that this does inconvenience our customers but can assure you that our teams will be completing this maintenance as quickly and efficiently as possible. The anticipated resumption of our gas service will be at 10:00 am on the same day.
We recommend that you make any necessary arrangements in advance to minimize the impact of this service interruption. Please ensure that the valves at your meter and appliances are closed during this time.
Assurance of Uninterrupted Piped Natural Gas Supply
We want to reassure you that there are no plans for further terminations.
Leak Detected - Emmarentia Dam pathway JHB
Leak detected - Emmarentia Dam pathway JHB Johannesburg, 29 March 2024 - Please be informed: The leak on the Emmarentia Dam pathway has come to our attention and has been examined. The affected area has been cordoned off to pedestrian traffic. We ask for your patience with our team as they work on the site this weekend. Additionally, for safety reasons, please avoid interacting with our staff and contractors during the repair work.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Egoli Gas believes it is unlikely that the explosion in Bree Street, Johannesburg was caused by a gas pipeline or leak. Our network has experienced no pressure loss which indicates the gas pipelines are intact. Our customers in the area continue to receive gas uninterrupted.
Our gas pipelines operate at extremely low pressure providing safe gas supply in highly built up areas and are therefore unlikely to cause an explosion or explode.
Initial reports have shown the collapse in the road to be mainly in the center. Our gas pipelines are located in the road servitudes on the sides of roads.
Our teams are on site investigating for any gas leaks, they have found none so far. We reiterate that our gas pipelines are on the SIDE of the road in road servitudes which are intact in the CBD including Bree Street. We urge the public not to make assumptions at this time. We are cooperating with all emergency services and other services on site.
